NCFC Crown Trophy: More Than a Scoreboard

The NCFC Crown Trophy in Raleigh was one of those tournament days that reminded us why we started Fonder FC in the first place.

The heat was relentless from the opening whistle. By the third game, the turf had become so hot that players were coming off the field talking about their feet burning. Despite the conditions, our Warriors continued to compete, encourage one another, and represent the club with tremendous effort.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had the final say. Thunderstorms and lightning rolled into the area, forcing tournament officials to cancel the remainder of the event after most teams had only completed two or three of their four scheduled matches.

One of the highlights of the day was another chapter in the friendly rivalry between our own teams. Coach Eric's Warriors Apex once again got the better of Coach Jeremy's Warriors Pinnacle, improving Eric's lifetime record to 2-0 in the club rivalry. Congratulations, Coach Eric! The competition is always fun, but even better is watching teammates challenge one another while making each other better.

Three of the five teams in the division proudly represented Fonder FC. When the tournament concluded due to weather, Warriors Apex finished in second place, while Warriors Pinnacle earned third. More importantly than the standings, every player competed with heart and continued to improve throughout the day.

We were especially proud of how our players and parents conducted themselves. Even when faced with adversity and less-than-sportsmanlike behavior from one opposing team, everyone stayed composed, respected the officials, respected their opponents, and represented Fonder FC the right way. Character is revealed during difficult moments, and our players and parents showed exactly what this club stands for.

One of the best parts of every tournament isn't always on the field. Between games, players from all three Fonder FC teams gathered at our home tent—laughing, cooling off, talking soccer, and cheering on whichever Warriors team was playing next. Seeing players support one another regardless of roster is exactly what we envisioned when we created this club.

This weekend also marked Coach Tim's debut with Warriors Summit. He was an immediate hit with the players, bringing great energy, encouragement, and enthusiasm throughout the day. We're excited to have him as part of the Fonder FC family.

Today wasn't defined by medals or final standings, it was defined by resilience in extreme conditions, growth throughout the tournament, teammates supporting teammates, and coaches building something bigger than soccer.
