Some Days Just Leave You Burnt.

By 8:30 in the morning, you could already tell this wasn't going to be an ordinary tournament.

The shade became valuable real estate. Water bottles never stayed full for long. Bags of ice disappeared almost as quickly as they arrived. Parents searched for every patch of shade they could find while players moved from one game to the next, trying to stay cool between whistles. Coaches found every bit of shade for players they could, even if it was another team's tent.

By noon, temperatures were pushing 100 degrees. On the turf, it felt even hotter.

Welcome to July soccer in North Carolina.

Fortunately, Fonder FC Tent City quickly became the place everyone wanted to be between games.

What started as a way to keep players and families out of the sun has become something much bigger. It gave everyone a place to recharge, reconnect, and catch their breath before heading back onto the field. It also gave us an opportunity to proudly showcase Fonder FC alongside the businesses helping build this club. As it turns out...those sponsor banners made for some pretty good shade too.

Today's photos tell the story better than any scoreboard ever could.

Cooling towels draped over heads. Ice packs balanced on foreheads. Shirts draped over faces. Players stealing just a few more minutes in the shade before heading back out for another game.

That's what today looked like.

No one was comfortable.

Everyone kept competing.

Were the results what we hoped for? Of course not. We left chances on the field and came up short more often than we'd like. That's soccer. Some days the ball just doesn't bounce your way.

But effort was never the issue.

Every player stepped back onto the field, battled through the conditions, and represented Fonder FC until the final whistle.

To our families—thank you.

You packed tents, chairs, coolers, fans, snacks, sports drinks, towels, and just about everything else needed to survive a North Carolina July. More importantly, you showed up. Every game. Every break. Every water refill. Every word of encouragement.

You continue to make Fonder FC feel like more than a soccer club.

A special thank you to Coach Tim for another steady day on the sidelines and for always putting our players first.

Behind the camera, it was a team effort as well.

For the first time, Danielle Fonda stepped behind the lens, covering Pinnacle's matches while I photographed Apex and everything happening around the tournament. Between the two of us, we came home with nearly 900 photographs.

After several hours of sorting through them all (and deleting a whole lot), we've narrowed the collection down to about 75 favorites. Keep an eye on the meesage that the gallery is posted on FonderFlicks website.

Then it's on to the North Carolina Cup on August 2, the final outdoor tournament of Fonder FC's summer season.

While that chapter is coming to a close, we're not done yet. Our Summer Indoor League continues, and this fall we'll head back into tournament play at the Turkey Shootout.

We'll refill the coolers.

We'll charge the camera batteries.

And whether it's under Tent City or wherever the next venue gives us room to gather, we'll be ready to do it all again.

The medals stayed at WRAL.

The memories came home with us.
